Our Curriculum
We aim to provide a safe and caring environment where children are stimulated through play. Children learn best through play so we strive to offer a variety of activities that will support them in their development.
Birth to 5 Matters
As an Early Years Provider, we must deliver the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to all children in our care from birth up to age 5. This document can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework–2
As a setting we have chosen to base our curriculum on Birth to 5 Matters. This document can be found at https://birthto5matters.org.uk/
We chose this curriculum as we believe every child develops at their own pace. The birth to 5 matters focuses on ranges rather than ages. Which provides parents with reassurance when it is time to review their child’s progress.

In the Moment Planning
Our planning is based on individual needs and next steps, Activities are planned by the child’s key person and are based on the child’s interests and events that have taken place at home or that they have participated in most recently.
We ensure there is a sufficient mix of both indoor and outdoor activities and a balance of adult led and child-initiated activities. Our adult led activities provide new experiences and encourage children to participate in new activities.
The Curiosity Approach
Over the last few years Bright Eyes has spent time researching The Curiosity Approach and has been working towards this approach within our environments. The curiosity approach encourages independent thinking, problem solving, time and spaces for non-verbal communication and time to develop their own language. It encourages child led learning and ways in which they can make their own choices.
“In 30 years’ time, half the jobs we have now will not be in existence,” Stephanie explains. “The best thing that we can do for our children is to create thinkers and doers. To manage and take risks. To be curious. Because curiosity is the spark that ignites everything else.” – The Curiosity approach https://www.thecuriosityapproach.com/
At our nursery we provide resources with endless limitations and objects with many uses. We also encourage up cycling, recycling and second-hand resources.

The Learning Journey
Key persons will regularly observe your child and record this via your child’s online learning journey, Famly.
Children’s learning is individual and tailored to meet their own needs. Children’s observations enable us to move your child onto the next stage of their development and are also useful for you to see how your child is progressing. Observations are welcomed by parents and can also be linked to their personal journeys and next steps. This will assist your child’s key person in making a more accurate assessment.
Written assessments are completed every 6 months on Famly, this will be on their birthday and then 6 months from then on, These assessments will be sent via Famly and an opportunity for the parents to come and speak with the key person will be provided.
